Apple Park, The 20 Billion Ringgit “Giant Spaceship”!

Apple Park, a new spaceship campus by Apple is currently valued at more than 20 billion ringgit! It is widely known as Spaceship Campus because of its UFO like design. The idea of the new headquarter was proposed by Steve Job and Apple’s chief designer Jony Ive, who just recently left Apple after twenty seven years of servicing the company.


The building is strategically located in Cupertino, California and built with “base-isolation” technology to help it withstand major disaster such as Earthquake. Till today, the building is accommodating more than 12,000 staffs for its operation.


Focus On Energy Efficiency

The workspace and parklands are conceived and designed to benefit the environment. According to CEO Tim Cook, the campus will run entirely on renewable energy. The building also produces its own electricity with a solar-panel-covered-roof. More than than, around 7000 of trees are set to around the campus. It also uses 13300 feet of pipeline to share the supply of recycled water between it and Cupertino.


Idea of London Square

Foster+Partners is appointed as the architects of this gigantic building. According to the founder and Chairman of Foster+Partners, Norman Foster, he is inspired by the idea of a London square, where houses surround park. From there, they work out the present design: a circular structure surrounding a large outdoor park. The architects also consider vertical proximities as well as horizontal ones to allow different department to work together.


Facilities Open To Public & Apple Employees

The Apple Park includes a visitor centre with an Apple Store and cafe which are opened to the public. For Apple employees, they are able to enjoy 100,000 square foot fitness centre, 300,000 square feet of secure research and development facilities, 2 miles of walking and running path, underground parking plus an orchard, meadow and pond. 1000 bikes are ready for the staff to get around the campus.
